RESEARCH PAPER
-Guidelines-

TITLE:
● Need a Title that hints to the reader your topic and main argument/ thesis.  It cannot be a generic title. You can be creative with the title to catch the audience/reader’s attention. You should have “masculinity or masculinities” in the title”
● You need a separate title page with your name, course title, semester, and I.D. number.

RESEARCH QUESTION:
●The starting point of any good research paper is always What you do not know or understand but feel you must.
●Your research topic is too broad if you can state it in fewer than 4 to 5 words.

● STEP1: Name Your Topic (What are you writing about)
● STEP 2: Suggest a Question (What you don’t know about it)
● STEP 3: Motivate the Question (Why you want to know about it)
          (Why is it important to ask your question at all or so what?)      

PAPER PROPOSAL (1-2)
          -Statement of Research Question
          -Search Strategy for locating source materials
          -Draft Outline of your paper

PAPER FORMAT:
1) TITLE PAGE (1 page)

2) INTRODUCTION (1-2 pages)
-
Use a “narrative hook” to attract the readerBegin with a story, current event or pressing issue being debated, a popular film etc..
-
The Introduction provides a brief description of the research topic. What is the general idea of your research? Why is the topic interesting to you? What makes the topic and the questions of importance to researchers, policy makers, and community activists?
-
At the end of the Introduction Section include a paragraph with Main Argument or ”Guiding Thesis”

 3) BODY (6- 7pages)
-You will need to Analyze, rather than describe
-Use EXAMPLES and CASE STUDIES
-SHOW ME, Do not TELL ME
-Pay attention to how author develops an argument, presents and analyses the eveidence
-Use subheadings
-Avoid unintentional borrowing that results in plagiarism. To avoid plagiarism use quotation marks or footnote page numbers.
-Avoid using too many BLOCK QUOTES

4) Conclusion (1-2 Pages)
- Restate your research thesis and main argument
-SO WHAT? Why should we care about your topic?
Explan the social implications of your topic for the future of men's masculinity

-What new idea(s) did you learn from your topic
-Limitations of the study

5) Bibliography Page (1 page)
Should include:
-Minimum of 3 Different scholarly journal articles
-Minimum of 2 Different scholarly Books
-Newspaper Articles
-Maximum of 2 Internet Sources
(NO Wikipedia Sources)
